How my daughter ruined love for me…. (Day 90 – 100 Days of Singleness)

Did I mention I’m a single mother? I was determined to write day 90, hours ago but between a conversation with my daughter and pointless scrolling on social networks… I got side tracked. I digress. I thought I knew what love was, then she was born and she ruined everything!

Ugh kids!

She totally ruined my ideal notion of love, that love meant you’d always know the right thing to say and how to make the person you love feel better. Sometimes you can’t do anything but be present, and sometimes because they’re hurting so much – you can’t even do that!

You know what else she ruined? My selfishness. I thought love was all about me, it would make me happy, love would fulfill me, love would mean I’m never alone. Love love love! She ruined it alright, she taught me what love was really about… The object of your affection.

I found true love, in my daughter’s eyes. They glow anytime I get near her and it draws me in that much more. She believes in me for no reason other than me being her mom. She loves me, once again – for no reason! I would give up everything I desire if it meant she could have everything she desires. She taught me how to love.

Here’s what my daughter taught me:
Love is selfless.
There are no prerequisites to loving someone.
Love everybody, even when they don’t deserve it because that’s when they need it most.
Believe in the people you love, it helps them to believe in themselves.

Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another. (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭10‬ AMP)

Love – it’s not about you.

How could they be so heartless? (Day 82 – 100 Days of Singleness)

Sometimes you wonder why those who once loved you dearly have seemed to become cold towards you. It’s like they no longer have a heart for you, perhaps you’ve even reached out to reconcile to maintain peace and been shut out. Their hearts have been hardened.

On more than one occasion in God’s word He hardened a group of people’s hearts to fulfill His plan.

Exodus 9:12
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

In this case, the Pharaoh’s heart was hardened to give God a platform to show His glory through miracles. If Pharaoh had complied, it is possible that he would have been revered as the one who “set the captives free” but God does not share His glory. He needed His people to come out from among them but He needed them to know that it was He that did the delivering.

Joshua‬ ‭11‬:‭20‬ AMP
For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, that [Israel] might destroy them utterly, and that without favor and mercy, as the Lord commanded Moses.

God’s chosen people were predestined to win the victory, the heart of their opposers had to be stubborn towards them to ensure that they’d be engaged in battle.

Now what does this have to do with me?

Everything. By adoption, you are God’s chosen people. I’ll assume that most of us aren’t waging actual war in the earth realm but as Ephesians 6 tells us, our battle is against principalities and wickedness in high places. Who better to be an adversary than those who know your weaknesses? It’s for this reason that we are betrayed and hurt by those we love, nobody else has the power to hurt us to the extent they can.

There are some that suddenly despise you, have spoken evil against you… For no apparent reason. People have actively attacked your character and undermined every effort you’ve made toward pursuing the purpose of Christ in your life. Let them. The power is yours to come against those spirits. Begin to pray for your enemies, those that spit on your name and all you stand for need to be at the top of your prayer list so that you do not grow hatred towards them and the word of God can be made manifest when He said “Vengeance is mine”. Pray blessings on those who curse you, prosperity for those who wish the worst for you. Pray for the lives of those that prey on yours.

The same God that hardened their hearts has the ability to give you favor in the hearts of those tied to your purpose. Be still.

Study, pray, praise and watch God work!

Trust the process, trust the Potter! (Day 80 – 100 Days of Singleness)

It’s lonely, dark and you feel empty. You’ve been stripped of everything seemingly and you begin to wonder if God remembers you. After all, you’ve done what He’s asked, what’s happening?

It’s the process…

So I went to the potter’s house, and sure enough, the potter was there, working away at his wheel. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot. (‭Jeremiah‬ ‭18‬:‭3-4‬ MSG)

The lives we led before our salvation, turned out badly. We had taken on a form that God could not use in the state it was presented so He had to reshape you. We came with baggage, soul ties and generation curses that need to be broken. There are habits and mindsets that need a shifting through divine direction of the Holy Spirit and it’s gonna hurt.

If you can imagine the actual process of a piece of clay, you’d quit wincing and realize that the pain of the process never exceeds the beauty of the creation. Your circumstances now, pale in comparison to the glory God will reveal in you. Though your physical may seemingly be falling apart, your eternal gifts are being stirred and brought from the heavenly realm into the earth by your submission. Do not lose heart when your spirit is being renewed daily, all else will pass! (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

Your body and possessions are fleeting, the more value you place on them the longer the process of stripping will take. God needs us to understand that He is all that matters and the source of all we require. Do not yield to temptations and list that are temporarily pleasurable and eternally punishable. In the same manner, do not flee temporary sufferings that will yield eternal rewards.

In case you haven’t heard, everything works out for your good! Don’t believe me? Romans 8:28 boo! Read the whole chapter while you’re at it.

Trust the process, trust the Potter!

A heart like yours! (Day 72 – 100 Days of Singleness)

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭5‬ NASB)

Being born again, means a rebirthing from our old sinful nature into a glorious and majestic being of love. We cannot serve Christ until we learn to love like Him.

Hide Your face from my sins And blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭5, 9-10‬ NASB)

God will not withhold anything we request, if we seek God for a clean heart we will undoubtedly receive it. We need the heart of Christ, a heart that never wavers in it’s pursuit to love.

Sometimes I talk to God because I need to, I just need Him. Sometimes we won’t get the words right, we won’t know what to say – just talk. God doesn’t care how eloquent you are. He just wants to hear from you!

Tonight we pray, for a heart like God’s. One like Christ, one that is pure and full of love.

Dear God,
Gracious and everlasting Holy and one true God, I cry out to you. From the depths of my heart I ask for a heart like yours. Give me a heart that is willing to sacrifice like Abraham did. Give me a heart that is obedient and trusts you above all else like Moses did. May I take on a heart like Job, that believes in you through the testing and though all my possessions and my own family and body are in conflict against me. Give me a heart of repentance and praise. Give me a heart like yours and a hunger and thirst for your presence. You are the God who always was and always will be, the God that created me in His image of love and I ask now that you perfect your love in me. In Jesus name, amen.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4-7‬ NASB)

May we live like you, love like you, forever.

Your loving daughter
